Mercedes Benz just launched its first all Electric Luxury Sedan the EQS. The EQS is also the first model to be based on the Mercedes-EQ modular architecture for luxury and executive-class electric vehicles.
The EQS has a range of around 700 kilometers and an output of up to 385 kW. It's designed inside-out to meet the expectation of being a progressive sedan in the S-Class segment. The S Class segment is considered the premium in luxury with all the bells and whistles, latest in technology, luxury, performance and comfort. The EQS 580 4MATIC Sedan has an electric powertrain (eATS) at both the front and rear axle.
The EQS can be charged with up to 200 kW at fast charging stations with direct current. At home or via public charging stations, the EQS can be conveniently charged with up to 9.6 kW with AC using the on-board charger.
Another first for a Mercedes offered by the EQS is the option of activating completely new vehicle functions via over-the-air updates (OTA). The EQS has up to 350 sensors that enable recording and monitoring of distances, speed, accelerations, lighting, precipitation and temperatures, seat occupancy, as well as the blink of a driver’s eye or the passengers' speech.
From the long lists of firsts, there's also the Standard rear-axle steering with a steering angle of up to 4.5 degrees, that would better the turning radius. With a premium package the rare-axle steering angle can be increased to 10 degrees resulting in a 10.9 meters turning circle.
EQS comes standard with Digital Light headlamp technology, DIGITAL LIGHT has a light module with three extremely powerful LEDs in each headlamp, whose light is refracted and directed by 1.3 million micro-mirrors. The resolution is therefore more than 2.6 million pixels per vehicle.
There are many more features in this car, too many to detail. But then again that's what one would expect from an S-Class. This car will set a standard in luxury, the one usually held by S-Class. The torch has been passed on to a worthy successor in the Electric world.
